About the Writer

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There’s no way around these two things that I’m aware of, no shortcut”.

-Stephen King

Jessica Tan was born in Seoul, South Korea, and has been a global traveler ever since. Her current projects include the Descendants of Sin series, a Greek myth retelling, and an urban fantasy. FAQs

What got you into writing?

I’ve always loved stories–listening to them, writing them, and drawing them. I think stories connect us together and help us build empathy. I started taking writing more seriously after reading craft books, taking online courses, and watching seminars in 2023. Some places I draw inspiration from are scenes from a dream, ideas in conversation, and journaling (I love writing prompts, especially).

What do you write?

I’ve written contemporary short stories, flash fiction, middle grade, and some adult fantasy. But my absolute favorite has to be YA fantasy with a touch of romance, political intrigue, mystery, adventure, and social themes such as race, gender, and sense of belonging. I write in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and dual POV, mostly in past tense, but I’ve dabbled with some present tense. I’m always looking to expand my writing skills and strive to find more interesting ways to share my stories.

Have you published anything?

Yes and no! I have one piece published in an online magazine, but I don’t have any novels in print. I hope to share my books with you soon as I work towards publishing traditionally someday.

How can I support you?
